About the artist:
Antoni Tàpies , 1st Marquess of Tàpies (1923 – 2012) was a Catalan Spanish painter, sculptor and art theorist, who became one of the most famous European artists of his generation.
Throughout his life, Tàpies has been associated with a number movements such as Art Informel and Haute Pâte or Matter Painting. He became a part of the Avant-Garde group, Dau al Set in 1948, who had strong ties to Surrealism. His early works were Surrealist, but in 1953 he began working on abstract art. It is here that he became a part of the Art Informel movement and started working with mixed media.
