London Design Festival At Antique Modern Mix Featuring Helena Patelisova & Frantiska Bencatova
14th - 22nd Of September
This London Design Festival, to participate in showcasing the city of London as the design capital of the world, we are proudly featuring two amazing artisan at our showroom on the King's Road in Chelsea.
Helena Patelisova
Antique Modern Mix proudly represents the ‘Root Vases’ by Helena Patelisová, an artisan from Czech, with a studio in the city of Prague, her work combines ceramic craft, applied art and slow design that is inspired by re-circulation and recycling. Drawn to the use of porcelain material, she is able to communicate and depict different emotions and situations in lasting design through her pieces.
In the Roots collrction her aim is to expose and showcase the beauty of the roots, often we pay attention to what stems from them but rarely do we appreciate the roots alone. Helena invites the audience to rethink this perspective, questioning whether we've overlooked the significance of what's hidden beneath. Her collection highlights resilient roots, often dismissed as weeds, rendered in striking shades of cobalt and ultramarine—symbols of deep value. Each handcrafted piece narrates its own story, as she molds the roots into vases, allowing some elements to remain unpredictable. "ROOTS" honors the unseen, offering a poetic tribute to resilience and the beauty that lies beneath the surface.
Frantiska Bencatova
We are proud to showcase artisan Frantiska Bencatova's project 'basket-like, basket-what, basket-why'. A recent graduate at Academy of Architecture, Art and Design in Prague, Frantiska's craft is specialised in jacquard programming textiles. She has collaborated on several projects including animated short film The Kite or the book The year of Good News 2021.
Her project, 'basket-like, basket-what, basket-why' explores the symbolic, cultural, and artistic significance of the basket through a pseudoscientific lens, focusing on textile mimicry and its connection to traditional weaving techniques. Drawing on research from the Center for Folk Art Production, Františka Benčaťová replicates basket structures and deconstructs them using the RGB palette to emphasize the multifaceted perspectives of a simple object. By manipulating spatial illusions with jacquard weaving, she blends craftsmanship with digital innovation, culminating in tapestries that reinterpret traditional techniques. Her work, a playful exploration of design and technology, has earned numerous awards, including the Rector's Prize and the Czech Grand Design recognition.
