A very rare "Hommage a Mondrian" desk designed by Italian designer Danilo Silvestrin for Rosenthal Einrichtung, c.1984

This desk is of the Memphis Movement Era, an Italian design movement originated in the 1980’s by Ettore Sottsass. 

The movement was a statement protest movement against the neutral, understated and  functional modernism that preceded them.

It defines the very basic designs elements of form and function and was successful to evoke emotions among the masses.

This innovative design comprises of five rectangular lacquered sections, in grey, black, blue yellow and red lacquer, this desk has been cleverly constructed and arranged to give a floating illusion. 

Very good vintage condition, very minimal signs of usage. 

About the designer: 

Born 1942, Silvestrin studied architecture at the universities of Milan and Florence. In 1967, he founded his own design office. Since 1971, he has been living and working in Munich.

The main emphasis of his work is focused in product design, creating timeless designs that harmonizes form and functionality.
