Winner of the Red Dot Best of the Best Award in 2008, SKIN, combines research, design and workmanship at the highest levels. Innovative new technology was used to create the tubular pretensioned steel supporting frame which has foam rubber padding for extra comfort.
The seating is suspended and the decorative elements become structural, making it surprisingly comfortable, original and delicate.
The frame is covered with hide leather featuring striking geometric incisions.
SKIN also won the ADI Index award in 2008 and the ELLE DECOR Design Award in 2008.
About the designer:
Jean Nouvel (born 12 August 1945) is a French architect.
Nouvel studied at the Ecole des Beaux - Arts in Paris and was a founding member of Mars 1976 and Syndicate de l'Architecture.
He has obtained a number of prestigious distinctions over the course of his career, including the Aga Khan Award for Architecture , the Wolf Prize in Arts in 2005 and the Pritzker Prize in 2008.
A number of museums and architectural centres have presented retrospectives of his work.
