About the Designer:
Danish designer Andreas Hansen became a skilled cabinet maker training at Ringe. He graduated from Kunsthåndværkerskolen (The School of Applied Arts and Crafts) in 1962 and then continued his studies at Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Furniture Design through 1963. He travelled to Italy, engaging in study-tours in Florence, Rome and Venice, and working for architects Mogens Koch and Vilhelm Wohlert, during this time. In 1963, he opened his independent design studio, designing furniture, lamps, and items for the home and office, primarily for Danish manufacturers.
Andreas Hansen returned to Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts as a teacher from 1968 to 1988, and between 1970 and 1973, he was also engaged as an educator at The School of Applied Arts and Crafts.
Andreas Hansen has won many prizes for his designs and a glance at his work for just two manufacturers bears this out. Early in his career, he designed a series of lamp shades for LE KLINT which were new and innovative, and markedly different than other, traditional LE KLINT models. A departure from the classic straight-line pleats of other LE KLINT models, Andreas Hansen’s designs were formed of sharp zigzag pleating. Though pleated differently than other LE KLINT models, his designs are, nonetheless, pleated in the same manner as all LE KLINT lamps: by hand. His many designs for LE KLINT have enhanced the beautiful lines of their classic collection of lampshades. Two sofas Andreas Hansen has designed for Nielaus Møbler, namely AH 70 and AH 15, further exemplify the basis of his success. The sofas are the embodiment of the timelessness and elegant creativity inherent in his designs.
